A Closer Look at Women’s Fashion During the Award Season

Within 2024, two major award ceremonies promoted fashion and inspired others: the Golden Globes and the Grammys.  Both award shows drew a powerful crowd of women who express themselves through their fashionable looks. Influential women participated in different trends during both events and wore brands that expressed their creativity and allowed their style to shine. The theme this awards season was long sparkly sequin dresses, puffy sleeves, statement jewelry, bouncy hair, and natural glowing makeup.

During the Golden Globes, actress Margot Robbie (Barbie), not surprisingly, wore a hot pink dress.  Margot worked with designer Armani to recreate the Superstar Barbie dress released in 1977.  The V-neck dress was tight to her ankles, glistening with sparkly sequins.  She complimented the dress with huge tulle sleeves that draped over her arms.  As for her glam, her hair had bouncy curls, and she went with a natural, glowy makeup look.

Taylor Swift, nominated for her movie Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,  wore one of her iconic, bright looks and, according to Swifties, channeled her Reputation Era. Taylor arrived in a custom floor-length green sparkly dress designed by Gucci.  The dress had cutouts on the sides and an open strappy back. She complemented her gown with Chrisitan Louboutin heels and accessorized with  De Beers earrings. To top it off, she kept her makeup natural with a slight smokey eye.

During the Grammys, singer Dua Lipa wore a silver metallic by Courrèges.  The dress was to the floor with long, puffy sleeves, a low-cut V-neck, and cut-out pocket details.  The dress wasn’t the only thing shimmering. Lipa accessorized with extravagant Tiffany & Co. jewels with all three pieces from their 2023 Blue Book Collection, a huge platinum and 18-karat yellow goldfish necklace iced with sapphires, rubellites, and diamonds, along with the matching bracelet and ring.  She flaunted her beach-waved collarbone-length copper-red hair with a dark, smokey look on her eyes.

Singer Olivia Rodrigo, nominated for Album of the Year, wore an archived Versace dress from the spring/summer 1995 catwalk.  The floor-length dress featured gradient red beads, sequins, and metal-ring straps. Rodrigo wore Bulgari diamond and ruby stud earrings with a large blue sapphire ring.  She styled her hair with a bouncy blowout and pulled the look together with an ombre red lip.

The showcase of style at both the Grammys and the Golden Globes this year set trends for the remaining award shows. From Robbie’s nod to Barbie, to Dua Lipa’s shimmering metallic ensemble, each artist brought their own sense of style to honor the timeless beauty of fashion.
